LATEST NEWS AND CLUB INFO

For the 1st time in the club's 13 year history, Team Redstar will compete in the Humber Cup for the 2009 / 2010 season. It will provide the hardest test that Redstar have ever faced with most teams coming from Division 1 in the invitation only competition.

Presentation night is on Saturday June 27th at The Empire Pub down Runswick Road, Cleethorpes. Kick off will be at 7 PM but feel free to arrive at 6 PM for pre match drinks and pool. Afterwards, as usual, up Meggies to dance the night away. Anyone who has not yet voted for their Players player of the year then please text Chiffy with your nomination asap. The awards this year will consist of players player, managers player, most improved, leading scorer and goal of the season.

The Healing Sixes tournament is on Bank Holiday Monday the 25th May at the Healing Royal British Legion. Please make sure you arrive at 10 AM at the latest if you are in the squad so we can report in and get the gazebo and barbeque etc sorted out. 1st games kick off at 11 AM and the tournament cost is £5 per player. We have applied for 2 teams to be entered as we had alot of interest this time around so the 1st squad of 8 is Soggy, Worm, Gibbo, Boz, Fordy, Coxy, Snowy and Burky. Hopefully the 2nd team will get in but it is going to a vote on Friday 24th May. The reserve team squad so far is Brodders, Ross, Will, Ads, Cam with 3 other places yet to be filled. If someone drops out of the 1st team squad beforehand then a reserve will promoted. Please note that wether your name is mentioned in the 1st squad of 8 ot the 2nd squad of 8 it dones not mean you are in that squad as things could change in a weeks time when players find out they cannot make it on the day. If you are not playing, please come down and give the Redstar lads your support in the Chapple marque!

Midweek training is every Wednesday at Hereford school 7 pm - 8 pm on the astroturf for an hours game £2.00 per head. Players old and new welcome.

Redstar Smarts News Football Club held their annual presentation evening at the Imperial Pub in Cleethorpes and then moved onto Cleethorpes to party the night away. Awards on the night went to Nick Woods for managers player of the year, Ross Atmore for players player of the year, Danny Mccann for goal of the season and Gary Cox for leading scorer with 25 goals even though he did not bother to turn up so his trophy was melted down the ungreatful ****! TEAM REDSTAR FC 5 - 1 CROWS NEST FC

Team Redstar Football Club were without club captain Dave Duff, his centreback partner Alan Flindall, Lee Ford and the influential Richard Gaunt when they played host to Crows Nest on a windy morning at Lucarlys. Manager Simon Chapple plugged the gap at the heart of the defence abilily assisted by wingbacks Gary Cox and Craig Nuttall ready to bale him out if the worst happened and he were to be outpaced! Redstar as per usual had to go a goal down before they started to tick. Atmore lost out to a Crows winger on the flank who delivered a pin point cross onto the nogin of the inrushing John Lilley who planted a firm flying header into the net. Atmore even had the nerve to feign injury and roll around on the floor like a runover moggy but just had to face facts that row z was the best option. He soon got up and wiped the egg off his face to rally the troops once again though and more than made up for his lapse for the rest of the contest. Not long after and Crows, through big Frank, hit the crossbar with a  looping header. 15 minutes later, Jay Bell hassled the Crows backline and challenged the keeper. The ball spilled out straight to Bells feet who equalised with a tap into the empty net. Almost immediatly from the Crows kick off, Redstar won posession and Gary Cox forraged forward, cut inside a couple of half hearted challenges and feinted in the box to lay off but instead battered a shot at the keeper that took him by surprise and nestled in the bottom corner. Redstar seemed to grow in cinfidence as Crows heads dropped and even the communication between Chapple and Atmore was a 1st in the ranks this season even if it was a torrent of abuse! Just before the break, Matty Conroy swept a neat effort just inside the right hand post to make it 3 - 1 to Redstar. The home side shuffled their pack at the break with Chapple making way for new signing Damien Zarzyna to make his debut with Conroy dropping back. Crows hit the bar with a rocket shot from their next attack but Redstar scored again when Jay Bell stormed through on the break and laid off to Luke Borrill who slammed in the lamb for number 4. Danny Borrill made way for Danny Macdougall who gave some fresh legs and youth to the side. Hobbit Bob Graves was all over the park for Redstar with his partner Chris Ward winning most things in the air like ya just don't care! The final substitution saw young rightback Richard Bradley replace pixie Nuttall who needed to get back to Oz to guard the gates on the yellow brick road. Team Redstar should have capitalised on a couple of 1 on 1's but had to wait until the final minute when Zarzyna bolted clear and outfoxed the Crows goalie to make the final score 5 - 1. To be fair to Crows, the few players that made a game of it and battled on to the end were let down by some of their teammates who had given up well before the referee blew for fulltime. They had a couple of well struck efforts themselves which goalkeeper Marco Sotgiu kept out and had 1 of them found the net then the game could've easily ended on a different note. Man of the Match for Redstar was Gary Cox, especially for having the balls to sport blonde tints in his mullet as if he was still on the dancefloor in J D's on a Thuirsday night.
1 final note. The whole of Team Redstar would just like to let Fordy know that were all thinking about him and his family as they are going through a pretty bad time at the moment. Without going into too much detail, come back soon Lee and our fingers are crossed for whom it may concern.
